Community and School Outreach

Clothes Closet

Provide assistance to RRISD outreach Clothes Closet. Go to Clothes Closet located by Voight Elementary school and help with sorting donated clothing and placing on racks or shelves for clients to select. Healthy Lifestyles

Family Fun

Family Free Events

Assist coordinator with these special events which may include Meet the Teacher Night, In The Know/Dessert Social, Kinder Play Date, Trunk or Treat, movie nights, skate nights, popcorn days, family dance, and many more. Email events@herringtonhawkspta.org

Family  Dance

Prepare flyers, organize snacks, drinks and entertainment, help decorate and work concessions. Help with set up and clean up for the event. Email events@herringtonhawkspta.org

Spring Carnival

This will be one of the PTA’s largest fundraisers of the year – and the most fun! The Carnival needs volunteers to help with sponsorships, advertising, booths, prizes, concessions and entertainment. We need many volunteers to make this a success and there is a place for you! Help can range from initial planning to working a booth to set up and clean up. Email carnival@herringtonhawkspta.org

Fundraising

Book Fairs

There are two book fairs throughout the year, Fall and Spring. The library staff needs help with decorating, advertising and staffing the book fairs. Help students and parents find the right books as well as work as a cashier. Help set up and take down decorations and book displays. Help promote book fair and teachers books to all families.

Fundraising Support

Assist the Financial Programs coordinator with advertising, processing, counting, organizing and distribution of the fundraiser. Volunteers can make signs, announcements, and flyers. Email operations@herringtonhawkspta.org

 

Holiday Store

The PTA provides a fun two-week long Holiday Store for our kids each season. Volunteers are needed to help the students pick out gifts for family and friends while staying within their budget. Will assist with wrapping gifts, restocking, set up and clean up and being a cashier.

School Supplies

The PTA offers school supplies at a reduced rate for each grade level. The school supplies are pre-packaged and contain the exact requirements for each grade. Volunteers are needed for pre-sale in the spring. The supplies come in the weeks before school begins and will be need to be sorted and set up by grade level to be ready for distribution on Meet the Teacher Night. Assistance with the actual distribution is also needed. Email studentservices@herringtonhawkspta.org

Spirit Wear

Duties might include assisting coordinator with inventory, set up and break down at events, selling merchandise at events, displaying and distribution of merchandise. Email spiritwear@herringtonhawkspta.org

Concessions

Assist with concessions at PTA events. Concessions may consist of hot dogs, pizza popcorn, candy, and drinks. This can be for a free event like Trunk or Treat or a fundraiser like the Carnival.

Staff & Curriculum Support

 

Library

Volunteers help by sorting books, re-shelving and assisting classes while choosing books for the week.

PRC Support

Help classroom teachers with projects in the PRC. Duties could include making copies, laminating, cutting, die cut letters and shapes and other specific projects requested by the teachers.

Room Parent Representative

There's no better way to get involved than offering assistance to our teachers! We are helping with classroom projects, 'Thursday Folders', organizing and sorting flyers, and fulfilling any teacher 'work requests' that come in. Help build friendly relations among parents and promote the works of our LHE PTA within the school and our community! 

Staff and Teacher Appreciation

We need to show our LHE staff just how much we appreciate them!! Duties might include set up, host, provide food, serve and cleanup for various events for the teachers. Help with Teacher Appreciation Week, which is the first week in May each school year.

Thursday Folders

Count, sort and deliver items to the teachers mailboxes for Thursday folders.  

Hearing/Vision Screening

Assist with the Hearing and Vision screening process in the fall and possibly in the spring.

 

 

Student Enrichment

 

Mentoring

Mentoring is a very important program to any school. Volunteers are trained and assigned to a student in need of a mentor. The area a student might need mentoring may be both academically and socially. It can include, but is not limited to, reading, math, social skills, or just an adult figure in their life. Mentoring is a very rewarding job!

 

Reflections

Reflections is a fine arts competition for students and it is sponsored by the National PTA. Helpers will organize and execute the program according to the guidelines of the contest. Field Day

Students come together with their classmates in the spring to participate in outdoor sporting events and games. Help is needed in the areas of setting up and tearing down, running and/or assisting at each station throughout the day.

Watch D.O.G.S.

WATCH D.O.G.S. is a national innovative program focusing on the prevention of violence in our children's schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures. Watch DOGS will start off their day on the morning announcements, they may read and work on flash cards with kids, play at recess, eat lunch with their child, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow, mentor students, and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their child(ren), but other students as well.  Read more here... Email topdog@herringtonhawkspta.org

Kinder Round Up

New and prospective students visit our school for information regarding registration for Kindergarten the following school year. Volunteers meet, greet, welcome, answer questions about the PTA and also help with making copies of required documents. Email events@herringtonhawkspta.org

Yearbook

Each year we produce a book full of memories for our students. Volunteers will help take pictures at events, upload photos, help with the layout and proof the work that has been completed. Volunteers will also help with sales and distribution of the books. Email yearbook@herringtonhawkspta.org
